Bayshore Discovery Project

Come aboard a tall ship native to the Delaware Bay - the 115 foot oyster schooner, A.J. Meerwald. Learn about the natural, historic and cultural resources of the Delaware Estuary, and the need to conserve these resources for the future.
Help raise & furl the sails, handle & coil the lines.

Assist the crew as they trawl for fish, dredge for oysters, sample plankton, or perform water quality tests. Enjoy the sights, smells, and ecology of the Delaware Estuary.

Call for public sail schedule. Day sails leave from our home port of Bivalve* (where the Maurice River meets the Delaware Bay), Philadelphia, Lewes, Cape May, Wilmington, Camden, or other ports in the region.

The schooner, A.J. Meerwald, is owned and operated by the Bayshore Discovery Project a not-for-profit {501(c)3 tax exempt] educational organization with the mission of providing education and building stewardship to conserve and enrich the culture, history and natural resources of the Delaware Estuary. The US Coast Guard has worked closely with the Schooner Project to ensure that the vessel and crew meet strict safety standards for carrying students and adults. The program is fully insured.
